This is a two storey residence of 267 square meters in Heraklion Crete with a north facing orientation giving the whole house privileged climatic conditions. Due to its positioning during the summer months the interiors retain their coolness by opening just a couple of windows/doors therefore air-conditioning is not required. The ground floor is raised at 1.20 meters above street level where one enters via a covered pathway arriving from stepped levels. The elevations are partially treated in render and partially in exposed concrete which differentiates the entire building to its adjacent ones. Two curving side walls dominate the streel façade adding to the design. Upon entering the residence there is a double height lobby also including the staircase to both upper level and basement. The T shaped design is an open dining/living areas plan where two yards surround the living room. When all the glazing opens up internal and external spaces connect and become one. The back north yard, which is a quieter and protected green external space, is also leveled creating smaller enjoyable areas. The project was delivered with the collaboration of 3Sk Stylianidis Architects in 2012.
